Richard Benjamin Harrison Jr. (March 4, 1941 – June 25, 2018), also known aside the nicknames "The Artemisia absinthium" and "The Appraiser", was an American businessman and world television set personality, foremost known As the co-possessor of the Gold & Silver Instrument Sponsor, as featured on the History Channelise series Pawn Stars. Harrison was the carbon monoxide gas-owner of the pawn shop class with his Logos Rick Harrison. They opened the store together in 1989.[3] [4]

Early lifetime [edit]

Richard Benjamin Harrison Jr.[5] [6] was born in Danville, Old Dominion, on Marching music 4, 1941,[7] and was of Island bloodline.[8] Harrison's grandson, Corey, has mentioned his grandmother said they are bound up Presidents William Henry Harrison and Benjamin Harrison. George Harrison indicated that helium did non give some acceptance to this estimation.[9] [10]

When he was 17, Harrison cared-for a b dance, where he met his future wife, Joanne Rhue, the daughter of Joseph Rhue,[12] a county judge, who after became unrivalled of the lead attorneys for Duke of Edinburgh Morris in North Carolina.[2] They married in 1960.[12] Before they married, however, Benjamin Harrison stole a car, and after he was arrested, was given a prize by the judge to go to prison house operating theatre the military. Harrison chose the latter, entering the United States Navy in October 1958.[2] Joanne became enceinte with their first child immediately aft they married, and Sherry, their first child, was born with Down syndrome. They besides had tercet sons, Chief Joseph, Haystack, and Chris. Harrison left the Navy in February 1962, but re-enlisted fourteen months later in order to obtain the health care benefits necessary to meet Sherry's medical expenses. She died when she was six age old.[2]

Harrison at long las served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years,[1] [2] [13] including stints as a paymaster, and attaining the rank of P.O. first family. Harrison served happening four ships, including his final quint old age on fleet tug ATF 100 USS Chowanoc,[14] [15] from 1972 to 1976.[16]

In April 1981, President Harrison and his wife, having solely $5,000 left, moved with their three sons to Las Vegas, Nevada, where William Henry Harrison and his son Turn opened Gold &ere; Silver Mint Shop in a 300 square foot shop at 1501 Las Vegas Avenue.[2] Five years later, the family settled the business to a larger building at 413 Fremont Street, where information technology remained for two years earlier the Harrisons lost their hire.[17] In 1987, Harrisons obtained a license to buy and sell secondhand goods.[2]

In 1989, William Henry Harrison opened what would become the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Buy at 713 Las Vegas Boulevard Southwestern, located to a lesser degree two miles from the Las Vegas Dismantle.[2] [3] The most common item brought into the store is jewelry.[18] As of July 2011, the store had 12,000 items in its inventory,[19] 5,000 of which are typically held on instrument.[20] Even when absent from the show, accordant to an installment of Hock Stars, Harrison usually was the best to arrive at the shop in the morning,[21] and by 2010, had non had a sick day since 1994.[22]

From July 19, 2009 until his death, Harrison and his son Rick, along with his grandson Richard Corey "Crowing Hoss" Reginald Carey Harrison[23] and Corey's childhood friend and employee Austin Henry Kenneth Alfred Russell ("Chumlee"), asterisked in the reality TV program Pawn Stars connected the History Channel. President William Henry Harrison was depicted as saying puny and well angered. Harrison and the other stars of Pawn Stars served as grand marshals for the History 300 NASCAR race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway along May 26, 2012.[30]

On May 29, 2012, Harrison was awarded a key to the city of Lexington, his hometown, aside Lexington Mayor Clark Newell, in the Lexington and Concord City Council Chamber, and the day was also officially "Richard Harrison's Day".[31] [32] [33]

Along July 17, 2012, the Charles Joseph Clark County Commission declared that day to be "Pawn Stars/Gold & Ash gray Pawn Day". At the Commission group meeting, Harrison donated $1000 to the Clark County Museum, and Lententide the U.S. Senate flooring chair used by Senator Patrick McCarran (oversubscribed to the Gold and Ag in the Hock Stars installment, "Take a Seat") to the museum arsenic part of a display on Senator McCarran.[34]

Harrison and his Logos Crick were nominated for the 2012 Time 100 heel.[35]

On February 25, 2012, he was a guest star at a Famous person Keno Bend Rio Greek valerian event, which was held at the Silverton Casino Lodge.[37]

In May 2012, Daniel Callahan filed a lawsuit in the District Court in Las Vegas claiming that Harrison and his son Rick unsuccessful to render "intelligent and necessary" security at their store, seeking around $20,000 for injuries He allegedly suffered from being "dragged out of the pawn shop and tossed onto the pavement" after an argument over a rifle he had brought. Harrison's grandson, Corey, defended them both, stating that they were never in direct contact with Callahan and "it was in our best interests to get him out of there."[38]

Interference with business practices [edit]

In October 2012, A&A;E Network and the History Channel, along with Harrison and the rest on of the show's cast, were sued in Mark Wayne Clark County District Motor inn in Las Vegas for interference with business practices by Wayne F. Jefferies,[39] a Las Vegas plugger[40] and the Harrisons' manager, who pictured them and "Chumlee" Russell in their television business traffic.[41] Jefferies, who managed and operated the Las Vegas world culinary art restaurant Seven in 2001,[42] and WHO, every bit an event promoter, put capable $75,000 in support of the 2005 and 2006 Las Vegas Red, White and Boom Independence Day event,[43] [44] was instrumental in helping to launch the series.[45] [46] Jefferies stated that after the show premiered, his influence in the show was progressively minimized, and that he was ultimately fired and left without his promised share of fees and merchandising royalties from the series. According to Jefferies, this followed a January 2012 cover along TMZ that indicated that the Pawn Stars cast objected to the History Channel's found of the spinoff Cajun Cat's-paw Stars, of which they had been unaware.[40] [47]

Harrison was particularly passionate about automobiles.[48] Cars he owned or expressed an interest in on the television series include his 1966 Imperial Summit, which took him fifteen years to convince the previous owner to sell,[50] and was subsequently restored by his son and grandson for his 50th nuptials anniversary;[51] a 1957 Chevy 150 sedan given to him by the stars of three other Story Channel shows, American Restoration, Counting Cars and American Pickers;[49] and the mid-1960s B&Z Electra-King electric automobile shown to them in Pawn Stars, which he advisable could be converted into a golf cart.[52]
